A Peaceful Weekend Escape at Field view lodge, Stanhoe…

First things first, it has to be said, the lodge itself is perfectly set up for families! With two cosy bedrooms - one kingsize and one twin - plus a travel cot and bed guards available, it’s ideal whether you're travelling with little ones or sharing with another couple. The two identical bathrooms (each with both a bath and a shower) made the morning routine feel effortless, and being all on one level meant no stairs to worry about - so much easier with children - and it made us feel more connected too.

Thoughtful touches throughout the lodge show just how family-friendly it is: from books, toys, and children’s cutlery and tableware, to buckets and spades ready for seaside adventures. The open-plan living area is bright and welcoming, with a lovely log burner that was already glowing when we arrived - such a warm and comforting welcome! (Logs are provided too, which was a great bonus.) And the views from the windows? Pure countryside bliss. Watching the sun rise over the fields with a cup of tea in hand was a peaceful little ritual I didn’t know I needed – definitely something I’ll be taking home with me!

Outside, the fully enclosed garden was a big hit. With a lockable gate, we had total peace of mind while the children played freely. There’s also a covered dining area and BBQ space - perfect for easy alfresco meals on warm summer evenings. The EV charger and private parking were great extras too, making travel completely hassle-free.

Location-wise, it couldn’t be better. Within a 10–20 minute’s drive, you can explore so many of North Norfolk’s best-loved spots. We chose to head to Wells-next-the-Sea and walked from Holkham through the magical pine forest – a route I’d absolutely recommend. We climbed trees, explored dens, and made our way to Wells where we enjoyed the playground, tasty bites from Wells Deli, and some seriously good gelato from East Coast Gelato. In the evening, we visited The Jolly Sailors for dinner – a brilliant family-friendly pub with delicious food and a fab garden complete with play equipment. The boys were entertained, the atmosphere was relaxed, and it wrapped up the day perfectly.

One of the things we really loved is that just next door is Olive Lodge, a cosy little lodge for two – ideal if you want to bring grandparents along or sneak in a child-free walk or dinner while they babysit! It’s a clever set-up and makes the property even more versatile for all kinds of family breaks.

All in all, our weekend at Field View Lodge was a joyful reminder that you don’t have to travel far to create unforgettable memories. Sometimes, the best escapes are just down the road. A huge thank you to Kelly for making us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The attention to detail, the comfort, and the craftsmanship of the lodge really do stand out – and we can’t wait to return. It’s one of those rare finds you want to tell everyone about…but also kind of want to keep to yourself!
