crafts hill barn - Dry Drayton, cambs
Nestled in the quiet village of Dry Drayton, just six miles from the historic city of Cambridge, this peaceful countryside retreat offers a refreshing escape from the everyday. With three thoughtfully designed, self-contained spaces – each perfect for two – it’s ideal for couples, friends, or solo travellers looking for calm, comfort, and a touch of the outdoors. While the retreat doesn’t ordinarily accommodate children, babes in arms are warmly welcomed, and The Cowshed is particularly well-suited for this, featuring a small adjoining bedroom perfect for your little one.
Each space offers something unique. Dragonfly Cabin sits right on the edge of a wild swimming pond and offers exclusive all-day (and night!) access – perfect for a sunrise dip or a moonlit float. Wildflower Wagon is tucked at the edge of the fields and its own woodland, complete with a dreamy outdoor bath and shower for a truly off-grid experience. The Cowshed, the largest of the three, is a beautifully converted brick barn with rustic charm and modern comfort.
Guests are invited to embrace slow, simple pleasures – whether that’s cooking dinner over the firepit or in the outdoor pizza oven using delicious pre-prepared food options, or exploring the local countryside and city sights on hireable e-bikes. There’s a small on-site honesty shop stocked with wellies, maps, games, magazines, and a few locally sourced drinks, snacks and treats. For those keen to stay active, a small weekend gym includes weights, a treadmill, and a Peloton.
While privacy is respected, hosts are on hand to offer a warm, personal welcome and help with anything from recommendations to local insight. Cooked breakfasts are available at weekends, and evening food options can be pre-ordered for cosy nights in. Most guests arrive by car, but you can also enjoy a stay here by train and bus or local taxi, making it a lovely car-free option too.
This is a place to disconnect, slow down and reconnect with nature – a countryside staycation that combines wild beauty, thoughtful touches and the comfort of feeling truly looked after.
Message from the owner:
We love where we live because of the wonderfully rural location, but still within easy reach of Cambridge. Our three unique spaces allow our guests to truly slow down and reconnect with each other and nature. Whether enjoying a dip in the wild swimming pond, a ride on the ebikes or cooking up a pre-prepared feast over fire, guests say we provide the perfect balance of being helpful without obtrusive. Many of our visitors return year after year, just like the dragonflies!
