A Family-Friendly Escape in the Heart of Holt

We spent a few days at Bluestone Cottage in Holt and honestly, we couldn’t have found a more perfect base for our little family. From the moment we stepped through the door, it felt like a warm hug - a real home from home filled with charm and comfort.

Nestled on a peaceful street just a short stroll from Holt’s lovely independent shops and cafés (we especially loved Hoppers Yard for a wander!), the cottage is full of character. Think exposed beams, warm earthy tones, and a wood burner that made our evenings feel like something from a storybook. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and just be together.

It’s surprisingly spacious too, with thoughtful touches in every room. The master bedroom was a dream, and the boys were instantly obsessed with the bunk beds (always a win!). The kitchen was my personal favourite spot: light-filled and full of countryside charm, complete with a butler sink and stable door that made it feel like something from a Nancy Meyers film. It was the perfect space for slow breakfasts and cups of tea after days out exploring.

And how about this for a little treat - just behind the garden, tucked away in the outbuilding, you'll find a private sauna - the perfect spot to unwind after a day exploring Holt. It comfortably seats four and adds a lovely little touch of luxury to your stay!

We loved being just minutes from everything - walking into town for cake and coffee at Byfords (don’t skip their deli counter!) and enjoying a lovely, relaxed dinner at The Feathers - super welcoming, great food, and really family-friendly, which always makes everything easier with little ones in tow.

One of our highlights was the circular walk from Holt to Letheringsett. At just over 3 miles, it was the perfect length for our two (aged 8 and 6), with lots to keep them interested - from muddy tracks to tree tunnels and wide-open fields. Back at the cottage, we rounded off the day with takeaway pizzas from Byfords, curled up by the fire. Absolute bliss.

Holt Country Park was somewhere we couldn’t miss out on before we went home. Just a few minutes' drive from the town centre, this is a real gem for families. With nature trails, a play area, and regular kids' activity days, it’s perfect for getting outdoors and letting off steam.

Holt is one of those places that just keeps giving. You can browse the shops, stumble upon a new gallery or toy shop, or find yourself in a hidden courtyard café you hadn’t noticed before. It felt relaxed, safe, and really easy with kids - which is exactly what you want from a UK family break!
